MITCHELL – Douglas M. Kimble, 81, left his earthly life on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was surrounded by his loving family and Mitchell Manor caregivers.
Born April 26, 1942, in Orange County, he was the son of Harold and Hazel (Newlin) Kimble. He married Janice Arnold on November 17, 1963, and she survives. They were married over 60 years.
Doug was a 1960 graduate of Campbellsburg High School where he played three sports and excelled in basketball. He retired from NSWC-Crane in September of 1996 with over 30 years of service in the engineering field. Doug attended Tulip Street Christian Church and gave his life to Christ on November 14, 2023. He was an avid fan of Coach Bobby Knight and his IU Hoosiers. Doug enjoyed reading, researching, his fruit trees, and being an expert handyman. Most of all, he enjoyed his beloved grandsons Graham and Samuel.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Kimble of Mitchell; daughter, Stephanie (Steve Burton) Hardman of Mitchell; grandsons, Graham Douglas Hardman of Bloomington and Samuel Marcus Hardman of Ridgewood, New York; sister, Cathy (Junior) Roop of Campbellsburg; brother, John (Wanita) Kimble of Niles, Michigan; sister-in-law, Agatha Kimble of Mitchell; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
His parents; brothers Carl Kimble, Charlie Kimble, Clifford Kimble; and infant brother Thomas Lee Kimble, preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Mitchell Manor with a special thanks to the sweet loving caregivers that treated him like family.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
