Douglas Clinton Langmade, age 96, of
Raymore, Missouri, went to be with the Lord at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home in Belton, Missouri, on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
A visitation service will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Open Door Bible Church, 16211 U.S. 71, Belton, Missouri 64012. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Open Door Bible Church.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on October 17, 1928, Douglas was the son of Nye J. and Lillibelle (Clayson) Langmade. He helped his father, Nye, who didn't drive, by driving him to church services and meetings from an early age. During high school, Doug worked in a grocery store every day after school. He was offered a partnership in the store when he graduated from high school, but he told his boss that he was going to spend a year at Midwest Bible Institute in St. Louis, a school that his father helped to found. He ended up spending four years there and he met Miriam Jane Nichols while in school. They were married on June 1, 1949, and daughter Jane was born while Doug was finishing school.
After his graduation from Midwest in 1951, Doug took his first pastorate in Fort Madison, Iowa. In 1953, he was called to East Troy Bible Church in East Troy, Wisconsin, where he ministered for 18 years. Son Steve and daughter Ruth joined the family while living in Wisconsin. During his time there, Doug also ministered at Lake Waubesa Bible Camp, taught at New Tribes Bible Institute, and built houses on the side. In 1970, the family moved to Illinois when Pastor Langmade was called to Faith Baptist Church in Decatur, serving there for eight years, while also serving as president of the board of Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission.
In 1978, Dr. Leslie Madison, president of Calvary Bible College & Theological Seminary, asked Douglas to consider becoming head of the Development Department. He accepted and they moved to the Kansas City area. Doug and Miriam served there together until 1995, when they decided it was time for retirement. But they continued to serve the Lord, with interim pastorates in a number of churches, trips to Russia to teach at New Life Bible College with Campus Crusade, and even as interim president of Calvary Bible College.
He was a member of Open Door Bible Church and also enjoyed spending the last few years attending Graham Union Church, where his son-in-law, Randy Grimm, was pastor.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Nye J. and Lillibelle Langmade, brothers Wallace, Floyd, Lloyd, Calvin, and Oliver, and sister Doris Schrag, and son Steve Langmade.
He is survived by his daughter Jane DeMoss (Larry), Ruth Grimm (Randy), daughter-in-law Kate Langmade, brother-in-law Dean Nichols (Norma), and eight grandchildren who knew him as Poppy – Jon DeMoss, Angie Hoffman (Geoff), Dave DeMoss (Alicia), Josh Langmade (Shelley), Matt Langmade (Allison), Amy Spratford, Sara Klaassen (Tim), and Michael Grimm (Serena); eleven great-grandchildren: Logan, Tatum, Bennett, Makenzie, Christian, Hannah, Ben, Rebecca, Lucy, Dylan, and Rex, and many nephews and nieces who knew him affectionately as Uncle Doug.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Calvary University, 15800 Calvary Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64147.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home and Brighton Hospice for their care for our beloved father.
