Douglas Oliver Obituary

Douglas Oliver, age 76, of Oscoda, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 27, 2025. He passed peacefully at home with his wife and daughter at his side.
Doug was born in Detroit on Nov. 25, 1949 to Harold and Evelyn Oliver. He was raised and attended school in Birmingham and graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School. He attended Alpena Community College where he met his future wife, Candace Schepler.
He received his bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan University with a major in physical education. His graduate work was completed at Central Michigan University with a major in special education.
He was employed by IRESA for over 30 years. He loved his students and tried to make learning a fun experience. He always said he could teach them anything as long as they could "sing" it. He was very involved in Special Olympics, was a former member of the Oscoda Lions Club, and was a volunteer minor league baseball coach.
He enjoyed woodworking and at Christmas he loved making wreaths for the community.
He was the proud father to Jennifer and Ryan, who were his pride and joy. Preceding him in death were his parents; mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Margaret Schepler; his son, Ryan, who passed at age 42 in 2022; sister-in-law, Audrey Schepler; brother-in-law, Craig McElmurry; and nephew, Eric McElmurry.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his daughter, Jennifer; nine nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Doug will be missed terribly by his family and friends.
No service is planned at this time.
