Douglas Gene Olson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on March 29, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on June 9, 1951, Doug lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and love.
Doug had a career as a furnisher refinisher, dedicating many years to this craft. His work was not merely a job; it was a passion that reflected his commitment to restoring and enhancing the beauty of each piece he encountered. Alongside his career, Doug also found joy in the world of estate sales, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for unique treasures with others.
An accomplished individual, Doug earned a Bachelor's degree in Education, a testament to his commitment to learning and growth. His passion for education extended beyond his formal studies; he took great pleasure in teaching Sunday School for 20 years, imparting wisdom and nurturing the faith of those he taught.
Outside of work and teaching, Doug enjoyed a variety of hobbies that enriched his life. He found solace in fishing, often spending serene moments by the water. His love for traveling allowed him to explore new places and create cherished memories with his family and friends.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Nancy Olson, who stood by his side through the ups and downs of life. He was a proud father to daughters Mikael Gunning (Keith) and Gabrielle Olson (Luis DeJesus), and a doting grandfather to his cherished grandson, Callum Gunning. Doug also leaves behind his siblings: Steve Olson (Carol), Jaime Manwani (Ghansham), and Terri Manecke (Dan), who will carry on his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, LeeVern Olson and Dorothy Hoppen Olson.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Friendship Cemetery in New Albany.
