DOUGLAS R. PALIN, SR
October 6, 1936 ˜ December 16, 2023
Douglas R. Palin, Sr. longtime local real estate broker has passed away at the age of 87.
Doug was born and raised in Seattle, WA, graduated from Highline High and served four years in the US Air Force as a radio operator. After his military service, he settled in Portland, OR, where he worked for Oregon Leather and later entered the real estate business. Doug moved to Vancouver, WA, in 1976 where he lived for the last 47 years.
Doug was one of an elite and limited group of National Real Estate Brokers known as Realtor Emeritus which required over 40 years in real estate combined with service at the local, state, and national levels.
His extended and blended family includes his wife of more than 31 years, Gwen Krebs Palin; children, Doug Palin Jr. (Kristy), Kathy Palin Sims (Bill), Greg Palin (Sally), and John Palin; and stepson, Aron Schur; grandchildren, Andrew, Kasie, Cody, Jacob, Emma, Ian, and Johnny; and great-grandson, Konnor. Doug is also survived by his brother, James Palin; sister, Sue Robinson; his in-laws, Donald and Maxine Krebs; and his extended family of in-laws, Tracy Krebs (Terri), Dan Krebs (Deb), Craig Krebs (Holli), and Shelly Krebs Norman (Guy); and multitudes of his favorite nieces and nephews.
While his vocation was real estate, he had an affinity and true talent for the game of golf. He could be located most afternoons at his beloved Royal Oaks Country Club and was always ready to play a few holes or hit more golf balls.
Doug cherished his family and enjoyed attending school and athletic events for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. His friends and golf buddies, too many to count, were a constant joy in his life. He will be fondly remembered for his unstinting love and loyalty to all who were privileged to be in his life.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Ruby Palin; sister, Patti Hughes; sister-in-law, Faye Palin; his first wife, Barbara; his second wife, Katie; and grandson, Jeffrey.
Doug’s family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, Jan. 5, at Royal Oaks at noon to celebrate his life and wish him Godspeed on his last walk on the fairway.

It has been a long time since we have seen each other but have often thought of Doug.
Our sons were in the same basketball team and Doug and I coached.
He was always a joy to be around. I will always remember his smile.

I´m so very saddened by this news. Doug was such a gent and so kind. I´m glad I got to know him for those few years, sit and chat with him on occassion and be his cart driver a couple of times.
