Douglas Pals Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ewing Funeral Home - Clarion on Jan. 8, 2026.
Douglas A. Pals, 72, of Dows passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Fort Dodge Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services for Doug Pals will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Funeral Home on Saturday.

Douglas Arthur Pals, the son of Arthur and Marjorie (Erickson) Pals, was born on July 9, 1953, in Belmond, Iowa. Doug was raised in Dows and graduated from Dows High School with the Class of 1972.

Following high school, Doug worked for Trigg's before beginning his career as a welder with Hagie Manufacturing in Clarion. He also spent time working alongside his father doing handyman jobs and took great pride in caring for the yard at home. During the winter months, Doug could often be found repainting and touching up the ceramic yard decorations he enjoyed so much.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and had a passion for racing. He was a devoted fan of the legendary Dale Earnhardt and looked forward each year to attending the Knoxville Nationals. Doug also proudly sponsored a local race car. Unless he was around his racing buddies, Doug was known for his quiet nature and never sought the spotlight, yet he was deeply appreciated by those who knew him best. He shared a special bond with his three sisters, who will remember him with love.

He is survived by his sisters, Patricia (David) Kuper, Betty (Gary) Peterson, and Peggy (Steven) MacRunnel; his nephews and nieces Jason Kuper, Nathan Kuper, Jodi Peterson, Dawn Peterson, Jeff MacRunnel and Matt MacRunnel along with extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
