Douglas G. Phipps

Douglas G. Phipps, age 69, of Adrian, died Friday, January 22, 2016, at the University of Michigan Hospital. He was born February 21, 1946, in Adrian to Glenwood and Geraldine (Hasley) Phipps. On August 28, 1965, he married Carol Stralnic in Adrian and she survives. Douglas had been employed by Krogers in Adrian, Ann Arbor, and Dundee as a meat cutter, retiring in 2008, after 45 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1970. Douglas enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his ultimate love was for his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by a son, Scott (Theresa) Phipps of Adrian; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Phipps of Adrian; a brother, Glennis Phipps of Adrian; five grandchildren, Tylar Knisel, Jacob Knisel, Dakota Jenkins, Courtney Phipps, and Gage Thayer; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. At Douglas's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation. Graveside services and burial of cremains will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh with his cousin, Pastor Art Horn officiating. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by the US Navy Military Honors Guard. A Celebration of Douglas's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. immediately following the graveside service at the Tecumseh V.F.W. Hall Slater Post #4147, 427 N. Evans Street, Tecumseh, MI.
