In memory of

I sold Doug glycerin for his Babies Breath harvest. Doug was soon a friend and he knew I was a fisherman. Doug wanted me to go to Belize to go after Bonefish but we never made it unfortunately. Doug was astute and I admired his family, airplane projects and spirit. I watched he and his wife pull a calf at their barn.

There is no way I could have rebuilt my CJ from scratch without Doug's help. He was always willing to talk about everything, pointing me in the right direction of the parts I needed and walking me through the books. I never met him personally, and I regret it. I wish I had a chance to thank him in person.

When I purchased my CJ. I called Doug just like everyone else. I called and started to describe the part I wanted. He said Stop. Do you have the manuals. I said yes. He said good, read them and call me back. Three days later I called back with good information and about an about of questions. He took the time to educate me, make sure I knew the pitfalls of the work I was about to do. He was the perfect person to fill that role. I wish I could have met him.

Doug was a great support to me when I brought my CJ over from Scotland.
A good friend & I joined the Sapps for Sunday lunch when we made a fuel stop nearby while ferrying a t/w Maule from Palmer, AK to Vacaville, CA. I realized how close we were to Doug, and called him. He came & picked us up, fed us and showed us his beautiful CJ5. Kathleen´s lunch was delicious, and most welcome
And I well remember Doug & Kathleen coming to stay with us in Maryland for a Vietnam vet reunion in DC.
Both absolutely lovely people. I´m sorry to read of Doug´s passing.

Doug was so generous to the All Red Star family. If he didn't travel down for the training event, he would send a donation to make sure we had a successful weekend of flying and Serious Fun.
My favorite was when he sponsored flight training, specifically engine out training. It was at least two years that he offered that training and it was well received by those I provided the training.
He cared deeply for his pilot friends and the venerable CJ-6A.
Doug, you Sir made an unforgettable impression on our aviation community. You will forever be remembered as a founder, father, and friend in our aviation community.

Donna and I met Doug and Kathleen at the very first Yak Fly-In, Hot Springs, South Dakota back in the mid '90s. After that, we became hooked to the hip for spare parts for my CJ. Both Doug and Kathleen were gracious with their time and never failed to help a brother out. To say he was the acknowledged "Nanchang Wizard" would be a mere understatement. Doug was the man. Donna and I will miss him greatly and to Kathleen, all our sympathy and ardent prayers.

The picture is Dough and I at Hot Springs as he pulls the prop of his venerable CJ-5 through. That was a great plane.

I remember Doug as a friend I spoke with many times but only saw on occasion of aviation events. He was always willing to help solve a problem or offer advice.

Doug you will forever be remembered to me the first couple of months of my Nanchang ownership. You took my call and walked me through my first parts buying experiences to get my plane flying. You are sorely missed and I´m forever grateful for having known you.
