It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Ross Sharp, 71, of Tontitown, who passed away on March 9, 2025. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having honorably served from 1971 to 1975.
Born on July 20, 1953, in Huntsville, Doug dedicated his life to serving others through a diverse career in healthcare administration. He had a passion for working with physicians and nurses and reaching communities with medical services throughout Northwest Arkansas. He prized continuous education and returned to school mid-career to earn a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from John Brown University in 1997. Doug had a welcoming, friendly smile for everyone he met and was a loving father to his children and their extended families and friends. He most enjoyed sharing time with loved ones, trout fishing along the Little Red River and golfing with a close circle of friends, pontooning around Beaver Lake, and competing with relatives for best barbecue ribs.
Douglas Ross Sharp is survived by his wife of 30 years, Bonita Lou Sharp, also of Tontitown; sister, Mary Kay Thompson, of Springdale; son and daughter-in-law, Scott Douglas Sharp and Donna Jean Dodge, of Fayetteville; daughter, Erin Leigh Sharp, of Huntsville; daughter, Leah Anne Garrett, of Fayetteville; and son, Jason Bailey Reed, of New Orleans LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Counts Sharp and Ida Alene Boyd; sister, Carol Ann Hawley; and daughter, Heather Lynn Garrett.
A service to honor his life and legacy will be held at Sisco Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:00 am. A military honors ceremony will follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made by check to the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement, Attention Jennifer Kruse, 1100 N. College Ave, Fayetteville, AR 72703, with a notation in the check memo "Heroes' Haven," or to the Lester C Howick Animal Shelter at www.washingtoncountyar.gov/government/departments-a-e/animal-shelter.
