Douglas 'Doug' Eugene Shultz was born August 20, 1942, in Hutchinson, KS, to Harry Merwin Shultz and Electa (Strawn) Shultz. He died December 29, 2023, at his home in Nickerson, KS.
Doug attended Ellinwood High School in Ellinwood, KS, where he met his wife of 59 years, Sandra 'Sandy' Faye Ravenstien. They were married April 19, 1964, in Hutchinson, KS. After they married, they moved to Georgia where Doug was stationed at Fort Gordon. Doug soon went to Germany where he served for two years and then moved to Tacoma, WA, where he was stationed at Fort Lewis. After serving three years in the United States Army as a Sergeant, they returned to Hutchinson, KS, where he worked at Davis-Child Chevrolet as a mechanic. Doug soon opened his own mechanic shop out of his home in Hutchinson, KS. In 1971, he and his family moved to Nickerson, KS, where he owned his own mechanic shop and worked with his wife and son. Doug sold his shop and went to work for Big A Auto Parts and Rose Motor in Hutchinson, KS, until retiring.
After retirement, he enjoyed working in his garage on small engines. Doug enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs football and University of Kansas basketball. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter play soccer.
Doug is survived by: his wife, Sandy Shultz of the home; daughter, Deanna and husband Norman Moeder of Andover, KS; granddaughter, Cassandra Moeder of Andover, KS; sister, Diana Parsons of Pratt, KS; sister-in-law, Carole Shultz of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Doug was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Steven Shultz; sisters, Dollie 'June' Schiewe, Darlene D. Eiland, and Dorothy Wall; and brothers, Delbert L. Shultz and Darrell L. Shultz.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary with Deacon Todd Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, KS. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
