Douglas Stone

Negaunee Township

Douglas Gerald Stone, 75, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully at home early Sunday morning, February 15, 2026 while in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Doug was born October 23, 1950 in Ishpeming to Carl and Viena (Koski) Stone and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1969. After graduation, Doug enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service to his country, Doug began his 33-year career with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. He began as a welder and retired as a vibration analyst.

Doug had a passion for antique cars. He was a member of the Superior "A's" UP Chapter as well as the Pasty Crew. If you didn't find him working on cars in his garage, you could find him woodworking in his basement workshop. A witty man who enjoyed a good joke, his distinct laugh will be missed. He also enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and bird hunting with his beloved dogs.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mary (Turino) Stone; three daughters: Cheri (Mike) Melone of North Carolina, Tiffany Stone of Traverse City, and Amy (Mike) Talo of Ishpeming; four grandchildren: Owen and Trent Melone, and Hoakan (Jillian) Brouillette and T'nia Burse; two sisters: Jeanne Wilfong and Sue (Jim) Huber, both of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Art Stone; and sisters, Joanne Hult and Carlene Davis.

Honoring Doug's wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place in Northland Chapel Gardens.

Doug's family extends a heartfelt thank you to their family, friends and the staff from UP Home Health and Hospice.
