I had the great honour to work with Duke at the Museum of the Regiments during the time when I was commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid. Then when I moved on to the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin I again was able to work with Duke (Wetaskiwin being his hometown). He was a great person and a very nice man; always ready to tell a story or offer his support. He will be greatly missed.

Although my time with Duke was very limited, it was a real pleasure to have met him and Bruce and Wendy. His contribution/service to our country and his family is the finest legacy that he could leave. Per Ardua Ad Astra Duke.
Wendy and Bruce, my thoughts extend to you as well and your selfless support of your father during his later years. Well done to you.

In addition to all the heroism that Duke displayed in his life, he was one of the finest persons that you could ever meet–the epitomy of kindness, generosity, and empathy for his fellow man all rolled up into one. He was a man who really knew what life was all about and used his life as an influence for good and helping those around him wherever he went. We were very privileged to have known him from 1998 on when I first interviewed him until recent days. Ken and Cheryl MacLeod

Uncle Duke & Aunt Melba were the best. I loved going to their home in Comox and have a lot of good memories of back then.I miss them both VERY much but a smile comes to my face everytime I know that Duke & Melba are together again with my parents and the rest of the family members we have already lost.

Duke and Melba were always very kind to our parents in Qualicum Beach. Duke and Bill Lyster were also Dieppe Raid veterans in 1942, Duke in the air above and Bill on the beach below. Many many thoughts of gratitude to Duke on his passing, for his bravery and kindness. He will be truly missed. I wish we could make it to Comox for the service.

Mr and Mrs Warren, a.k.a. Melba and Duke, were like my second family. My family and their family go back about 60 years and there are many fond memories. They will both be dearly missed but they are now together once again.

Duke and melba were neighbours of my family in the Carthew subdivision in Comox since I can remember. They were dear friends of our family and will be sadly missed. They both did so much for the community. My deepest sympathy to the family.

May Douglas rest in peace and his family be proud forever of his contributions to the world in which he lived.
So many of our brave veterans of foreign wars are leaving us on a daily basis and all too often their sacrifices are not remembered. We could not enjoy the freedoms and benefits of Canada without the efforts of men like Douglas and his comrades; honour them always, forget them never.
