Douglas Worley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James & Lipford Funeral Home - Graceville on Mar. 5, 2026.
Douglas Benjamin Worley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 4, 2026. D. B. was born on April 8, 1932, to Douglas and Ada Worley at the family home in Bonifay, Florida.

He attended Old Mt. Zion Church School. At the age of 18, he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Foreman. They married on August 8, 1953. They became the proud parents of six children. D. B. was a meat cutter and manager of Tobias Meat Company in Chipley, Florida, for 15 years.. In 1970, he became a U. S. D. A. meat inspector for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the State of Florida. This career spanned 27 years. D.B. loved music from an early age. He started playing guitar at the age of 5. He played in the FFA String Band in school. He started his own band, Danny and the Rhythm Boys. They had a radio show as well as a television show. The band was popular and entertained at V.F.W. halls, N.C.O. clubs, nursing homes, and family reunions. He was also in several gospel groups playing for various churches. He enjoyed lifting the spirits of others with his music and continued to share his gift of music throughout his life into his 80's. Family reunions and family gatherings were events filled with singing and guitar and mandolin music. He was also a gifted mechanic and could fix anything. He was kind-hearted and welcomed everyone into his home-family, friends, and even strangers. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. D. B. loved the Lord, his family, and his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Catherine; his sisters, Olean Prather, and Earlene Rolling; grandson, Ashley Bush; and son-in-law Rob West.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Retha (Joel) Snell, Denise West, Teresa (Randy) Bush, Danny Worley, Donnie Worley, Benjie Worley. He was so proud of his 16 grandchildren: Sabrina Reynolds, Kevin Snell, Wendy McGough, Robbie West, Jason West, Jeremy West, Dylan West, Brandy Bush, Derek Worley, Dustin Worley, Danielle Steverson, Jaran Worley, Katie Worley, Grayson Worley, Zachary Worley, and Morgan French; along with his 24 great-grandchildren: Fuller, Tucker, Katlin, Kevina, Chase, Allie Grace, Paisley, Braxton, Kelan, Shauna, Trey, Caden, Raegan, Darien, Pailynn, River, Zaylie, Westin, Maddox, Maken, Bryndon, Broox, Oaklee, Sawyer, one great-great-grandson: Crew; and a host of nieces and nephews.

D.B.'s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at East Mount Zion Church in Bonifay, FL. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 3:00 p.m.. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with James & Lipford Funeral Home directing.

Words cannot express what DB and Catherine meant to me and my family. DB was like a brother to my brother Jim R. Register. He and Jim R had a very special bond stemming from all the music they played over the years. Wives, Catherine and Ouida, went with them a lot of the time with children in tow. I have so many sweet memories through the years and I pray your memories will sustain you during this time of grief. He loved his family very much and was so proud of all of you. He was very special to the Minnie and Young Register family.

My prayers are with you at this time. In your sadness you can rejoice in the good life Mr. D. B. lived everyday. He blessed all who knew him. To God be the Glory for the life lessons he taught by the way he lived.
