Douglas Brown Young

Douglas Brown Young, age 89 of Sparta, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his residence.

Douglas was born July 12, 1936, in White County, Tennessee, to the late Foster V. and Thelma England Young. Retired from Anchor Hocking and a skilled electrician by trade, he was known for his strong work ethic and steady character. At home, Douglas found joy in gardening, canning, and the quiet peace of rocking on his front porch beside his wife, Marie, whom he cherished deeply for more than fifty years until her passing on February 27, 2026.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his children, Lori Young and Alan Young; as well as his siblings Charles Edward Young, Arlie Young, Minnie Lee Kerley, Glinda Sue Young, Rachel Oliver, Earnestine Cope, Thomas Howard Young, James Ray England, Kenneth Gentry Young, Quentin Taylor Young, and Marie Seibers.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Gentry (Chris) Farley, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his chosen granddaughter, Kelly (Brad) Johnson, who was family to him through love, not blood. Grandchildren, Lindsay Farley Madewell and Tyler Farley.

A joint funeral service with Doug's wife Marie will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, March 5, 2026 in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00pm Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. John Murphy and Eugene Lawson will officiate.

Pete Frady, Justin Frady, Jason Young, Kenneth "Jap" Young, Brandon Young and Roger Young will serve as pallbearers.
