Dovie Teresa Powell, a beloved figure in the lives of her family and friends, departed to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on August 10, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on October 3, 1953, Dovie embodied the essence of love, compassion, and resilience throughout her life.
A visitation to honor Dovie's life will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, North Carolina, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM and concluding at 8:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Friday, August 15, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM.
Dovie was a dedicated mother, sister, and grandmother, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Powell; sons Johnny Yow and wife Della, and Robert Joseph Yow; daughters Candice Yow, Emmily Crews and husband Jeff; and grandchildren Ethan Pickrell (Austin), Joseph Yow, Morgan Richardson (Matthew), Nathan Yow, Justin Yow, Katherine Yow, and Lexie Mae Meadows; great grandchildren, Avary Richardson and Reign Everhart. Dovie also leaves behind her sisters Phylis Wall, Stacey Teague, Leslie Jean Webb (Robert), and Ann Marie Cross, who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her vibrant family life, Dovie had a plethora of interests that brought her joy. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and cherished moments spent reading, particularly the Bible. Her love for storytelling extended to her fondness for watching soap operas, where she found entertainment and connection. Dovie was also a devoted lover of animals, especially her cats, which brought warmth and companionship into her home. Above all, Dovie treasured spending quality time with her family and often found happiness in shared meals and simple gatherings.
Dovie is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Cross Sr., her mother, Betty Jean Frazier, and her brother, Joseph Cross Jr. Their memory will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew her and will serve as a reminder of the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
As we reflect on the remarkable life of Dovie Teresa Powell, let us celebrate the love and memories she has gifted us, holding her close in our hearts as we navigate the days ahead.
