Doyle Winfrey Obituary
November 4, 1929 - November 9, 2025
Doyle L. Winfrey, 96, of Grand Island, passed away on November 9, 2025, at Heritage at Sagewood with his family by his side. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 13th at 10:30 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home, with Dan Naranjo officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
Doyle was born on November 4, 1929, in Wolbach, Neb., to Jesse and Mildred (Wight) Winfrey. He was raised and received his education in the Grand Island area. Doyle enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and proudly served his country until 1950.
On April 22, 1950, Doyle was united in marriage to Violet Luthultz. Four children were born into this union. In 1962, Doyle started Winfrey Plumbing and Heating. His beloved company is now in its third generation of ownership and business. Doyle was the longest licensed plumber in Hall County.
Doyle was a member of the E- Free church, the Veteran's Club, Elks Club, and the Saddle Club. Doyle and Violet enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing cards with their long-held group of friends. For 25 years, Doyle and his wife enjoyed their second home in sunny Mesa, Ariz., during the long cold winters of Nebraska. He continued to "snowbird" in Arizona after his wife's passing on July 14, 2019. He could often be found in his flower and vegetable garden or watching old westerns on tv. Doyle also helped in planting the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Patricia (Tom) Dalvin of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jenny (Shawn) Minyon, Melanie Winfrey, Michelle Winfrey, Philip (Katie) Winfrey, Nicholas (Sarah) Winfrey, David Crouch, Leanna Holmes, Alexandra (Niki) Arnett, Tracy (Megan) Nelson; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary West of Altuna, Iowa.
Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; children, Leigh Anne Nelson, Linda Holmes, Michael Winfrey; and his parents, Jesse and Mildred.
Memorials are suggested to the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, or to the family.
