Dr. James Charles Campbell, 77, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025. He was born to David Leonard Campbell and Verda Maxine Ayecock Campbell in Portland, Oregon, on December 6, 1947.
He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Kinesiology, and Theology, and also from the Oregon State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in Springfield, Illinois, followed by his residency at Baylor University.
Dr. Campbell was a highly respected dermatologist in the Rio Grande Valley. During his medical career, his clinical research consisted of co-authoring ten peer-reviewed articles.
He served proudly in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Colonel.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maria Campbell; his children, Jaason Campbell, Jacqueline Campbell, and Jeffrey Campbell; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Mary, Dominic, Sebastian, Tyler, Kaleb, Cecilia, and Xavier Campbell.
The Campbell family will welcome relatives and friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday, June 6, 2025, at noon. At 2:00 p.m., Dr. Campbell will be laid to rest at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas, with full military honors provided by an honor guard from Randolph Air Force Base.
