May 3, 1945 – April 26, 2025

Dr. Martin Ross Pittman, 79, of Jonesborough and Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, esteemed oral surgeon, Navy veteran, and generous community servant, Dr. Pittman lived a life of purpose, resilience, and compassion.

Born on May 3, 1945, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Martin achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout and was honored as a member of the Order of the Arrow, reflecting his early dedication to leadership, service, and scouting values. He served honorably as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Dr. Martin Pittman pursued higher education with distinction, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas, a dental degree from the University of Tennessee Dental School, where he was honored as a member of the Richard Doggett Dean and Marguerite Taylor Dean Honorary Odontological Society, and a Master of Science in Dentistry from the University of Minnesota. He completed his residency in oral surgery at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. As an Oral Surgeon for over 40 years, Dr. Pittman touched countless lives with his expertise and care. He was a proud member of the American Society of Oral Surgeons and the International College of Dentists, and received the prestigious Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Dental Association for his outstanding contributions to the field.

A two-time survivor of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Martin, faced adversity with courage and grace, inspiring all who knew him. He was an active and devoted father, guiding his children through childhood and adulthood with unwavering love and support, and took pride in their professional achievements in healthcare. His generosity extended to his community, where he was a longtime Rotarian, and to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, where he faithfully served as a longstanding elder.

Dr. Martin Pittman is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Lea Pittman; his sons, Dr. Tyler Pittman (Kelly), a dentist, and Dr. Jason Pittman (Rebecca), a dentist; his daughter, Dr. Tabitha Stansbury (Dr. Trent Stansbury, a dentist), a pharmacist; his six grandchildren, Kayla, Zachary, Blaine, Graham, Taylor, and Trevor; and his step-grandchildren, Parker and Spencer. He was preceded in death by his father, John Madero Pittman; his mother, Kathryn Daniels Pittman; and his brother, John William Pittman.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m., on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, TN. A private graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Martin’s memory or a charity of your choice.
