Dr. Michael Wyly, D.O., 76, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in rural Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Michael was born on May 3, 1949, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Sue (Medearis) and Sidney McNair Wyly. He was delivered at Tahlequah City Hospital by his grandfather, Dr. Park Hinds Medearis, a legacy that foreshadowed his own calling in medicine.

A proud graduate of Tahlequah High School, Michael was a standout member of the Debate Team, earning top honors at the state level. He went on to attend Northeastern State University, graduating in 1971 with dual degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry. Michael earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in medical school, he married Dianne Asbill, and together they welcomed their son, Daniel McNair Wyly, during his residency in Cleveland, Ohio.

Following his training, the family returned to Tahlequah, where Dr. Wyly opened a private practice and was the medical examiner for Cherokee County. Michael was deeply proud of his Cherokee heritage, and went to work for Cherokee Nation as a board-certified family practice physician. He worked in several Cherokee Nation clinics, the longest being at Redbird Smith Health Center where he also served as medical director. Dr. Wyly was known for his calming presence. Staff often said that when he walked into the building, they knew everything would be okay. He was a good teacher and mentor, was kind to everyone, and loved caring for his Cherokee patients. He once said that if he were remembered for anything, he hoped it would be: "I listened."

Michael was most at home, surrounded by his church family at Canterbury Chapel in Vian. He often played guitar during Sunday services and loved potluck gatherings, frequently opening his home for fellowship. He also enjoyed traveling with the church to destinations such as Branson, sometimes even driving the church van on these trips.

Later in life, Michael found a new chapter of adventure and companionship when he moved to Tulsa and married Marilyn Kelley. He continued his work in Native healthcare as a locum tenens physician with both the Cherokee Nation and Choctaw Nation.

Michael and Marilyn traveled as often as they could, preferably by motorcycle. They rode to Canada, Yellowstone, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Telluride via the Million Dollar Highway, and nearly every road in Oklahoma and Arkansas. His favorite motorcycle adventure was when they rode to Montana with his best friend, Wolf, to the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park. He called it "his trip of a lifetime."

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his son, Dan Wyly of Tulsa; stepsons Jonathan Phillips and Miceal Kelley, both of Tahlequah; brothers Mark (Susan) Wyly of Tulsa, Robert Wyly and John Wyly of Tahlequah, Jim (Stephanie) Wyly of Texarkana, Texas, niece Kate Wyly-Terral and her husband Sage of Little Rock, Arkansas, nephew Jake Wyly of Tahlequah, father-in law George Walker of Pryor, brother-in-law Kenneth McCord of Big Cabin and a host of extended family, friends, and former patients whose lives he touched over the decades.

A public visitation will be Monday, June 30, 2025 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Hart Funeral Home, there will be no funeral service.
