Dr. Nino Mariano Trunfio

Dr. Nino Mariano Trunfio, known to many as 'Pop', lived the fullest life for 90 years before passing away peacefully on November 11th in Greensburg, PA where he has lived for the last decade after moving from Rochester, NY. Born in Utica, NY, he was the youngest of nine children. From there he went on to attend Holy Cross College and Georgetown University for medical school, thus setting the stage for the rest of his life and career. He moved to Rochester, NY for residency where he met “the love of his life”, Muriel, while she was working as a nurse at St. Mary's. Nino and Muriel were married in Rochester, NY November 4, 1961. He enlisted in the Air Force as a captain and was stationed in Red Bank, NJ for two years, where they would later welcome their first child, Joe. Nino joined Elmwood Medical Associates in 1963 and continued his work as a well-respected physician until his retirement in 1998. His patients were like family and he treated them that way. His passions included but were not limited to, his pristine yard (a trait passed down to Joe), gardening, collecting tools and gadgets of every variety in his garage, tinkering with cars, making sauce and meatballs, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills (though in recent years he was seen wearing Steelers gear, most likely against his will). One of his greatest attributes was his wide range of knowledge and being able to answer just about any question asked (medical or non-medical). But if he were to be asked what he was most proud of in his life, he would tell you it's his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was everyone's greatest supporter, constantly joking around and he always had a big smile on his face. Nino was a faithful servant of the Lord and was an active member of the Catholic Church until his passing. Nino and Muriel were founding members of Rochester Area Right to Life, both fierce advocates for the unborn.

In addition to his parents and his eight siblings, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Athony Trunfio in 1998.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, with whom he celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary on November 11th, Muriel M. Coiro Trunfio; daughter, Ann Queale (Robert) of Greensburg; son, Louis Trunfio (Sheila) of San Diego, CA; daughter in law, Claire Beauchemin of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren, Rachel Mort (Joe), Max Queale (Lydia), Olivia Trunfio, Michael Trunfio (Cassandra Phares), Annmarie Queale, Ryan Queale (Lindsie), Nina Trunfio and Julia Weinland (Graeme); eleven great grandchildren, Emma, Nate, Bradley, Mila, Joey, Aaron, Brooks, Hattie, Liam and two highly anticipated great grandchildren in February; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nino lived a life he loved and there will be a profound hole in all our hearts with him gone.

There will be no public viewing. Relatives and friends of Nino are invited to attend his funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025, in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Military Honors will follow Mass.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery Chapel, Rochester, New York. Please meet at Dewey Ave. Gate by 9:50 a.m.  Interment will follow.
