Duane A. Butler was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 17, 1954 to the late John and Lizzie Mae Butler, the second of three children. He graduated from Hales Franciscan High School in 1972 located in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Northern Illinois University, where he majored in pre-pharmacy but graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Special Education in 1976. While at Northern Illinois University, he was a Spring 1973 initiate into the Epsilon Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was an active member on campus and was lead step captain of his beloved fraternity. After graduation, he worked for Chicago Transit Authority for a number of years as a clerk manager. Later, he switched career paths into education as a special education teacher for the Archdiocese of Chicago Schools until retirement. Duane transitioned home to glory on November 22, 2025 at the age of 71. He is survived by his son and daughter, Duane and Brittain; two grandchildren, Devin and Aubrielle; brother, Desmond (Mary); sister, Elizabeth and a host of nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as “Bud” by his close friends and family.
