Duane "Cherry Bomb" Thomas Cherry, age 52 and long-time Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed away on February 28, 2026, at Mercy Ada hospital surrounded by his loving family and Ghost Mound brothers and sisters.
Duane was born on August 10, 1973, in Santa Clara, California to Thomas and Bonnie Cherry. Duane grew up in the Seminole, Oklahoma area from the age of 10. He was a 1992 graduate of Varnum High School in Seminole. He was called the "Seminole Producer" for years, if you know you know. Anything that was happening at one end of town, the other end of town new within minutes. From a young age he would help anyone out that needed it. Duane would give you the shirt off his back. He had helped his sister move numerous times when Tyler was little. It didn’t matter what time of the day or if he had something else going on. Even in later years and as recently as a year ago he helped us move to our new home. He never complained. Duane worked for the old Downtowner Phillips 66 on Crazy Corner in Seminole for several years then went to work for Expert Tire for several more years. Then in 2003 he went to work for AGS, LLC. In that position as a field service technician, he grew so much with this position. He was a people person and loved to get to know people. He was able to travel all over Oklahoma working on casino games. In 2017 Duane went to Las Vegas for the big annual gaming casino meeting called the G2E Trade Show. In 2013 he joined the Bowlegs Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed doing that as he was working side by side with his buddies, doing what they do and helping others. In 2014 Duane and friends founded their club, Ghost Mound and he served as the club's VP.
Duane is survived by his fiancé, Kristine Britt of the home and her son Karson Pennington; sister, Lisa Marcel and husband Henri of Seminole, OK; nephews, Tyler Marcel & Kaitlyn Bates of Shawnee, OK and Henri-Robert Marcel, III of Seminole, OK; nieces, Kal Marcel, of Seminole, OK and Brandi & Kalone Blackwell, of Earlsboro, OK; great nephews, Tevin, Jarrin & Kamrin Blackwell, Hudson Marcel and River Marcel; lots of uncles, aunts, cousins. Duane is also survived by his Ghost Mound brothers and sisters and the Bowlegs Volunteer Fire Department and many many people that he has touched.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncles, and step-son, Kanyan Pennington.
A Celebration of Life for Duane will be held on Saturday. March 21, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Bowlegs High School Gymnasium.
