Duane A. Huether

Duane A. Huether, 66, of Hettinger, ND died January 20, 2013 at West River Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burail will be held at 10:00 AM MST January 23, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Fr. Kerry Prendiville will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A vigil will be held at 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Duane Albert Huether was born at home in Havlock ND on July 25, 1946 to Emmanuel and Ann (Hofer) Huether. He was raised on the family farm south of Regent ND where he attended Wagendorf country school until seventh grade when his family moved to Hettinger where he finished is education graduating in 1964 from Hettinger High School. He worked for Christ Zimmerman on the Poultry farm after school and on weekends going full time when he graduated from high school until the poultry barn burnt down. He was than employed as a hired man for Buster Merwin/Roger Wilson for the following 12 years. He went to work for the American Colloid Company for the next 5 years. He finished out his working years working for Anfinson/Runnings until he retired on June 1, 2011. He had a passion for hunting and fishing so he opened D's Sports Barn in 1993 until the present time. He enjoyed spending evenings and weekends helping and visiting with his customers young and old. He joined the Army National Guard and spent 11 years serving his country. On August 9, 1969 he was united in marriage to Geri Mort. One daughter, Sonja, was born to this union. Duane loved to be surrounded by his family especially his 2 grandchildren, Lukus who grandpa was proud of what great aim he had when shooting and Kinnlee the red- headed princess/drag queen which always had to pester grandpa, where the apples of his eye. Duane will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Geri, Hettinger. One daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Andrew Meier, Minot; 2 sister-in-laws, Danette Thomason, Hettinger and Dale Huether, Holmen WI; 2 grandchildren Lukus and Kinnlee Meier, Minot ND; as well as 3 nephews, Dale (Jodi) Huether, Fargo ND, Lowell (Rebecca) Thomason, Kasson MN, and Brandy (Sarah) Thomason, Boone IA; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Lowell and Bessie Mort; and one brother, Floyd. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial will be established by Duane's family.
