Duane Mayfield

Duane Kevin Mayfield was born on November 11, 1955, in San Francisco, California, to Glyden and Mary Mayfield.

He attended Saint Dominic's Elementary School in the 1960s, where he received his First Communion.

Duane began his high school education at Sacred Heart High School and later attended Washington High School,

where he played basketball and graduated class of 73'.

In the 80's, Duane worked at Mount Zion hospital, where he met Ruth Dunn. The two dated and were later married in 1986.

From this union, three beautiful daughters were born: Deanna (Toy), Alexandria, and Aliyah.

In 1989, Duane began a long and dedicated career as a bus operator with AC Transit at the D4 Yard.

He faithfully served the community for 26 years before retiring from the D2 Yard in 2015.

Duane is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Mayfield (Baby Jean); his maternal grandparents,

Johnny Bozeman, Amanda Arthur (Honey), and Jack Arthur; his paternal grandparents, Glyden Mayfield Sr. and

Carrie Mayfield; and his brother-in-law, Willie "Bozo" Nicholson.

Duane departed this earthly life on January 5, 2026. and leaves behind a legacy of love.

He is survived by his daughters Kira Simon, Demetria Morgan, Deanna Mayfield (Jarrett Green), Alexandria Mayfield,

Aliyah Mayfield, and Kaela Mayfield; four grandsons, Dominic, Tamir, Roman, and Ikaika; and one granddaughter, Dakota.

He is also survived by his father, Glyden Mayfield Jr.; his stepmother, Ercelle Mayfield; his brothers, Ramey and Nakia Mayfield;

his baby sister, Renee Mayfield-Nicholson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
