Duane Charles McWhorter
March 20, 1943 - October 16, 2025
ARGYLE - Duane Charles McWhorter died unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on October 16, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born in Glens Falls on March 20, 1943. His parents were the late Marjory Williamson McWhorter and James Laurence McWhorter.
He attended Argyle Central School and worked for the town of Argyle for many years. Duane and his brothers operated McWhorter Trucking, which was started many years ago by his parents. They would haul cattle for numerous area farmers. Duane proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
Duane married Edna Guilder on March 31, 1973, and they were parted by her death on June 1, 2012.
He was a long-time member of the Tri-State Antique Tractor Club and the United Presbyterian Church in Argyle.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Edna; two brothers as youngsters, Roland and David McWhorter; two sisters, Lois Kilmer and Mary Lou McWhorter; two brothers, Bruce and Kenneth Thomas Whorter; brother-in-law, Maurice Kilmer; and sisters-in-law, Shirley, Suzanne, Judy, Sandra, and Faith McWhorter.
Survivors include his live-in companion of over 30 years, Tammie Perry, who was the daughter he never had, plus his siblings, Dr. Earl J. McWhorter, John McWhorter, Donald McWhorter, Gordon (Elizabeth) McWhorter, Paul McWhorter, and Dorothy (Gary) Sherman. There are also many special nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a few great-great nieces and great-great nephews, as well as cousins and lots of friends.
The entire McWhorter family wishes to sincerely thank Tammie Perry for all the care, help, love and support she provided for Duane and Edna through the years. You are our special angel, and we will love you forever.
Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle NY 12809. Service will follow after the calling hours at the funeral home.
The pallbearers will be Mike Newell, Dan Newell, Brian McWhorter and Donald McWhorter.
Burial will follow the service to the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle NY.
