Duane Meier Obituary

Duane Meier, 87, of Gladstone, MO, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012. Funeral service will be 10:00am Thursday May 31, 2012. Visitation will be 6-8pm with Rosary at 6pm, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Funeral Home. Duane was the son of Grover J. and Elsie Jane (Taylor) Meier and was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, Oct, 21, 1924. The family moved to North Kansas City, MO in 1931. Duane graduated from North Kansas City High School and attended John Tarleton Agricultural College and William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. Duane earned the Combat Infantry badge in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He was a member of the third Battalion, 395th Infantry 99th Division, which was awarded the Distinguished Unit badge for performance of duty Dec 16-19, 1944, near Hofen, Germany. After the war, he sold sporting goods for five years and then was employed at Kansas City Power & Light Co. for 37 years. In 1969, he married Mary J. (Olivarez) Mansur, who had one son, Michael Mansur. Duane was past president of the KCP&L Square & Compass Club, past commander of KCP&L American Legion Post 86 and past president of KCP&L John Lynn Club. He became a Mason in 1956 and was past master twice of Fidelity Lodge 339 in Farley, MO. He has been a life member of the NRA since 1969. Duane, Mary and Michael lived in Independence for two years and moved to Gladstone in 1971. He leaves his wife, Mary, of the home; son Michael Mansur and wife Pattie; granddaughters Kathryn E. Mansur and Claire L. Mansur and grandson Robert W. Mansur of Kansas City, MO.
