Duane Nelson Obituary

Watertown, WI - Duane E. Nelson, 82, passed away on January 1, 2026.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI.

Duane Edwin Nelson was born to his parents, Edwin and Margaret (née Abel) Nelson on August 29, 1943. After graduating from high school, he went on to work for Ladish Malt, where he remained until his retirement. On May 22, 1963, Duane was united in marriage to Grace. Duane was an amazing husband to Grace, and in later years when her alzheimers developed, he took great care of her.

Duane was very passionate about fishing and hunting. He was such a great father for always taking his kids hunting and fishing throughout the years and taught them to enjoy the outdoors that God gave us! Duane was a generous and charitable person who loved to give, frequently donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He also always loved winter for the opportunity to snow blow his entire street. His neighbors will definitely miss him. He will be so missed!

Duane is survived by his daughter, Christy Zwieg; grandchildren, Jonathon Nelson, Ciara Nelson, Casandra (Jairius) Stolar, and Caden Fredrick; great grandchildren, Sarana Stolar, Rilian Stolar, Esther Stolar, and Xoe Reed, Lamell Reed, Aleyiah Greer, and Shaw Vitaioli Nelson and Olivia Osborne ; and sister, Judy Nelson; as well as other relatives and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Nelson; parents; son, Dan Nelson; siblings, Betty Wagner, Robert Nelson and Donald Nelson; and son-in-law, Chad Zwieg.
