Duane Edwin Nottger, aged 88, passed away on August 20, 2023, at Martin Center at the Western Home Communities due to respiratory complications. He was born on June 20, 1935, in
Waterloo, Iowa, to Edwin H. and Josephine Balenseifer Nottger. He married Sharron Lehr at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo on October 4, 1964.
Duane received his education at East High School and later embarked on a remarkable career. Duane served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict and continued his service in the Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of Chief Machinist Mate before retiring in 1987. For 35 years, in addition, Duane worked in the John Deere Powerhouse, ultimately retiring in 1993 as a Powerhouse Operations Supervisor.
Beyond his professional achievements, Duane was an active member of his community. He was a proud member of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 in Cedar Falls, where he held the esteemed position of Master in 2004. His commitment extended to the Scottish Rite Consistory and El Kahir Shrine Temple, exemplifying his dedication to fraternal organizations. As an avid enthusiast of vintage cars and street rods, he owned and cherished his 1928 Dodge Bros. sedan.
Duane's legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharron, and their children: daughters Jodi and Julie from
Minneapolis, MN, and son Jason and Jamais from Williams, IN. His six grandchildren, Morgan Paca, in Austin Texas, Chase and Anna Paca in Dubuque, and Bella, Graham, and Sawyer Nottger of Williams, IN. Duane also is survived by his faithful companion Mr. Bates, a black lab, who brought him immense joy.
Preceding him in death were his parents Edwin and Josephine and sister, Barbara Turner.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Richardson Funeral Home, followed by burial at the Garden of Memories Cemetery on Logan Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Black Hawk Lodge #65 or the Shrine Hospitals, reflecting Duane's commitment to philanthropy and community.
