Duane Place Obituary

DUANE C PLACE Duane C Place, 72 of Delphos, passed away on October 8, 2025, at Lima Memorial Hospital Hospice following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born May 8, 1953, in Lima, OH, to George & Helen (Marckel) Place, Duane was married to Pamela (Schwieterman) Place on September 5, 1975. They recently celebrated their 50-year anniversary. Together they had one daughter, Rachel (Jason) VanHoose of Chicago, and two grandchildren, Henry & Ginny. Duane is survived by his brother Bill Place of Wapak, two sisters Carol (George) Mox of Delphos, and Linda (Dan) Klausing of Ovedio, FL. In-laws Diane Miller, Kathy (Paul) Feathers, and Jeff (Jennifer) Schwieterman, all of Delphos. Duane had many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Duane was preceded in death by his Parents, George & Helen Place, In-Laws, Edgar & Helen Schwieterman, Brother, Lewis Place, Nephews, Eric Place & Mathew Klausing. Duane graduated in 1971 from Delphos Jefferson, having enjoyed playing football and basketball. Duane enjoyed golf, fishing, boating, racing, and spending time with friends. He was a jack of all trades with broad knowledge and expertise who was able to fix anything. Duane could talk to anyone about any subject, especially cars and motors. He loved to share his knowledge of motors and teach others. Duane had many successful and fun years of racing, winning multiple National races. When it came to motors, he was a perfectionist. He was in the process of building another race car, which unfortunately he was not able to complete due to his illness. Duane was an early riser and enjoyed watching sunrises, listening to and watching the birds and nature in his backyard. He loved sitting under the "magic tree" in his front yard. All of his dogs over the years were very spoiled & special to him. His Grandchildren were his pride and joy. He had a full, successful career in the automotive field. After retiring and moving back to his hometown, Duane became a member of the Delphos Eagles Aerie #471. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Cleveland Hope Lodge or to the family for medical expenses. The family would like to thank all of the friends, family, and neighbors for their support. Special thanks to Duane's friend Mark, Dr. Afonja, and Nurse Navigator Nancy. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Weber Funeral Home, Delphos. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, October 19, and 10:00-11:00 a.m. before the service on Monday, October 20, at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos.
