Duane Thomas, 63, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Born on October 24, 1961, in Winchester, Indiana to David and Julia (Sheppard) Thomas both of Farmland. Duane was the oldest of three brothers.  He grew up in Farmland, Indiana, where he graduated from Monroe Central High School in 1980. A dedicated athlete, Duane excelled in various sports but held a special fondness for basketball, particularly during his senior year on the varsity team.

On October 8, 1988, Duane married Michele Thomas, with whom he shared 33 wonderful years until her passing in December 2021. Together, they raised two beloved children.

Throughout his life, Duane worked diligently in the Indianapolis area. He started his career at Furrow Lumber Company, where he met Michele. He later transitioned to roles at SUMCO and Eli Lilly, serving as a line controller. Following health challenges that led to his disability in 2016, Duane devoted himself to his personal life and well-being.

Duane's heart was firmly anchored in his family. He was profoundly devoted to Michele, and her loss deeply affected him. His passion extended beyond his home; he avidly loved live music, particularly classic rock bands such as the Eagles, AC/DC, and Tom Petty. Duane was also a fervent sports fan, passionately following the Colts, Pacers, and Indiana University basketball and enjoying fantasy football for over 20 years. He cherished attending the Indy 500 and listening to the race on the radio annually.

As a movie enthusiast, Duane always had a film playing in the background and was known for his frequent quoting of classics, transforming lines into cherished inside jokes with family and friends. He enjoyed watching Saturday Night Live and following award shows like the Oscars and Golden Globes.

A devoted reader, Duane admired Stephen King, boasting a significant collection of the author’s works. He kept himself informed on current events, including pop culture, through daily newspaper readings.

Duane was also honored as a Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Squire, a recognition he shared with his brothers and best friend Todd Griffith. He has enjoyed attending Jack Daniel’s BBQ Festival in Lynchburg, Tennessee, multiple times over the years.

He is survived by his mother, Julia, daughter Ashley (Joe) Wilson, and son Tyler Thomas. Duane was a proud grandfather to Maxwell and Jack Wilson.  His sister-in-law, Sandy Thomas and their children Lindsey and Cal Thomas.  Youngest brother, Chad Thomas, his child Parker, and his grandchild Scarlett.

Duane is preceded in death by his father, David Thomas, brother, Kevin Thomas, and wife, Michele Thomas.

Duane Thomas will be remembered for his loving spirit, dedication to family, and enthusiasm for life. His legacy of kindness and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
