Dwayne Allen Helton Sr., 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 8, 2024 after a three-month battle with end-stage, non-alcoholic liver disease.
Born on March 29, 1963, Dwayne was the son of the late Barbara Winkler. He was an adopted son of the late Charles Roseman and Mary Roseman. In addition to his parents, Dwayne was preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Smith, and his adopted brother, Rodney Roseman.
Dwayne was a member of Haven of Grace church in Lenoir, NC where he led the "Kingdom Kids" and the "Just Older Children 'Joy' Club" as well as served as the choir director. He also played piano and sang for many churches over his lifetime including South Fork Baptist Church in
Hickory, NC and Refuge Missionary Baptist Church in Hudson, NC. He was known for his love for God and his involvement in church to help spread the love of Christ.
Dwayne was a pharmacy technician for over 30 years for various pharmacies including CVS Pharmacy, Walmart Pharmacy, and other private pharmacies. Dwayne was also known around the community for his work at the old Jo Belles in Hickory.
Aside for his passion for the Lord, Dwayne loved to dabble in many things. He was known for his decorating skills, his baking, and his ability to do almost any craft in the world. Most specifically, he was known as "Mr. Christmas." Dwayne loved Christmas and being able to share the holiday cheer with any and every one even if it was Christmas in July.
Dwayne is survived by his wife, LaRenda Phillips Helton, and their son, Dwayne "DJ" Allen Helton Jr; his sister, Sherry Craig, and her husband Reggie; his sister, Kathy Bolch, and her husband Joe; and his brother, Billy Smith, siter-in-law, Sandra Roseman, two nieces; Megan Roseman, and Tameca Patterson, nephew, Josh Craig, and a aunt, Betty Curlee.
The celebration of life service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Refuge Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Chris Kirby, Darren Peterson, and Scott Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 2:00pm.
