To the Family and Friends of Dwight Clark, I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up in the 80's, 49ers was my favorite team. Any interviews I saw of Dwight Clark, he had a very kind demeanor.. May you find comfort in the words at Psalm 147:3, " He (God) heals the brokenhearted. He binds up their wounds"

RIP Dwight Clark, one of my favorite 49ers! I had season tickets in the 80's and I was so excited to see the 49ers turn it around and start winning Super Bowls! Thank you Dwight for that beautiful catch! We also visited his restaurant, where we met Jerry Rice. You'll always be in my heart, a good man and great teammate!

Dwight was my favorite 49er. My uncle was a season ticket holder and he took me to many games in the 80's. The only poster I had up in my room was of Dwight Clark, it wasn't "The Catch" but the one of him in the Adidas shorts. In 2016, I was attending a Boston concert and the woman next to me spilled some of her beer on the ground near my purse. She was apologizing to me, when her husband leaned forward and said, "Babe, that's a lot of spillage!". I recognized his voice immediately and I leaned back and whispered to his wife, "He's Dwight Clark!". She said yes it was and I said he was my favorite football player. A few seconds later, Dwight leaned over and introduced himself to me and shook my hand. His wife, Kelly had kindly told him that I was a fan. Thank you, Kelly for sharing your husband with us all, I always regretted not asking your name and introducing myself to you. You & Dwight are both class acts!

Having grown up only two blocks from old Kezar Stadium, football was the last thing on my mothers mind. She had eight boys to raise. However, when the Niners triumphed over Dallas that infamous day at Candlestick, it was the Dwight Clark's famous catch that put the E in excitement to the game of football in our household. What was even more amazing, it was the catalyst that launched my mother's very first interest in the Niners.

Thirteen years later we lost our father to Lou Gehrig's Disease, ALS. Sundays wouldn't be the same for our mother, but she never lost her faith in the Niners. At 91, battling cancer, she made it a point to get out of bed every Sunday to watch her Niners.

When I learned of Mr. Clark's familiar fate, my heart sunk. When I saw the wonderful tribute they gave him last year at Levi Stadium, it brought hope, compassion and awareness to this terrible disease. But most of all, everyone saw the amazing courage he evoked and sincere appreciation and love he had for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for the memories!

July 19, 2018

I met Dwight while he was playing with the 49ers and he was the kindest guy. He had just opened his restaurant in Redwood City and was so nice to me and my friends. I just learned today while I was watching the ESPY's that he passed away from ALS. I've been quite out of touch since I live on Kauai now for so many years. My sympathies to his family, his friends, the 49ers and all the people he's touched around the world. One day I hope they find a cure for ALS. God bless you all.

We greeted Dwight as a rookie when we were President & Secretary of the 49ers Booster Club. We toured S.F. together and relaxed in our penthouse while sharing life stories and dreams. Harry interviewed you at our Booster Club dinner and you shined. We were on the field ready to take down the 60 ft. Club banner when you made "The Catch" leaving us breathless. Harry was inducted into the Hall of Fans as the #1 Fan in 2003, passed 7 years ago, and surely met you in heaven. I remain on the 49ers website as "Mother of the 49ers". You are in my heart forever, Kitten Troutt

To the Clark Family, My wife and I extend our condolences to the Clark family. I had the great pleasure of meeting Dwight at an autograph show in Chicago and he was such a nice engaging and friendly man. A true gentleman. Dwight Clark will always be remembered for the "Catch" a game I enjoyed watching growing up in Chicago when it was below zero outside with a wind chill of-64. Dwight will especially remembered for the first rate man he was on and off the field. I knew that he was a kind man who treated people with dignity and respect and worked very hard to better his community. He was a modest and humble man. He will be missed. Our Lord called home a good man as our Christian faith reminds us. May his Memory Be Eternal, We will miss you Dwight. Thank you for being part of our lives as we watched you play the great American game with such class.

Dwight you are an inspiration to all of us that suffer with a chronic disease, thank you and your fellow 49er players and family for giving us so many fond memories, you will live forever in our minds for your accomplishments on the field and more importantly for how you lived your life off the field, its not the length of life that matters but the depth of life, you touched so many lives in a positive light, may God be with your family.

The nation loved Dwight, as a football player..an excellent one....but here in Charlotte, there is a local crowd that knew him first, and along with many other Garinger Wild Cats, I mourn the loss of a fellow classmate. Nice guy in school..just as talented then as he was as an adult..but never cocky or conceited. Always, always a nice guy. Prayers for his family, he left way too soon, too young .Prayers for his buddies from GHS. Their hearts are hurting. A special group of fella's that remained friends for 50 years. I pray God's peace heals the pain of loss. He suffers no more and if you know our God, you will see him again one day. Great peace in that. RIP Dwight.

Ill never forget seeing Dwight walking off the field after a 49ers home game in 1981. I was 17 and mesmerized by this beautiful man and awesome athlete. I snapped a photo of him which I cherished. When they finally made it to the Super Bowl I was deleriously happy. My dad and I were watching the NFC Championship game against the Cowboys and no one gave the 49ers a chance to win but when Dwight made The Catch we jumped off the couch screaming in delight. Its the best sports memory I have. I adored him as an athlete and a genuinely nice person. The world lost a beautiful soul last week. We will never forget #87. A life well lived. God Bless you Dwight.

I was saddened to hear of Dwight's passing today. One week later, how did I miss this. I just wanted to say that he will always remain in my heart. I am a true die hard 49er fan and I watched all the games back in the days with Dwight Clark, Montana, Craig and Rice, as well as all the other 49er players, and I can't tell you how all of us SF 49er fans enjoyed their games and truly loved these guys. Dwight maybe gone in the flesh, but his memory and spirit will live on in our hearts forever. We Love you Dwight Clark, Rest in Peace sweetheart!

You are the reason I became a 49er fan 35 years ago, and I remain faithful to our team to this day. I was heartbroken when you announced that you had ALS, and now that you have passed away for this awful disease, my heart breaks again not only because you are gone, but for your family and your 49er family. Thank you for always being a wonderful role model to so many. I love you and will miss you always. I will wear my 87 CLARK jersey with even more pride. Good bye to a dear sweet man!

Back in 2010 I was sitting at the bar in the Lounge having Lunch at Pine Lake Country Club here in Mint Hill. I struck up a conversation with this tall distinguished Gentleman. Just small talk but I can remember what a pleasant and mild mannered person he was. This particular Gentleman finished his Lunch and was on his way. A friend of mine sitting at the other end of the bar said to me "do you know who that was?". I said no. He said Dwight Clark. I thought wow, what a down to earth person. Zero pretense. To hear the news of his passing brought this memory back to me. Dwight was a kind hearted soul. I send my heartfelt condolences to all of Dwight's Family and Friends.

I am so sad. Several years ago, not long after "The Catch", my ex (we were married at the time) tells me that his "softball team is going to play against Dwight Clark's softball team in Redwood City". I thought "Dwight Clark plays softball?". So I anxiously jump in the car and we head off to Redwood City. My ex tells me to "take plenty of pictures". I must have gone through about two rolls of film. We had the pictures developed and my ex was not very happy with me. He said "All of these pictures are of Dwight Clark. There isn't a single picture of me. You couldn't have at least taken one picture of me with Dwight Clark?" I said "No, I have plenty of pictures of you but I didn't have any pictures of Dwight Clark". Sadly, those pictures all burned in the 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm. You gave us so many exciting and memorable moments and we thank you. You are going to be dearly missed. Rest in Peace Dwight. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I pray for God's grace and mercy for your family. Dwight was authentic and generous in spirit. I met him my first week as a new student at Garinger and he took the time out to introduce himself to me. He was the Big Man on campus and I was almost a stranger -- but everyone was important to Dwight. I am forever grateful to have been around his light during his senior year. May peace be with you during this season of grief.

Dwight was my grandmother's favorite 49er. She met him many times over the years at different booster events. Me and my girlfriends, along with my Mom and Grandma became Dwight's Girls and wore t-shirts every year at a golf tournament in Lake County, CA. Dwight would have tons of fans waiting for him, but he always met with Grandma first. One year we gave a Dwight's Girls shirt to his then girlfriend Kelly. We were honored to be his biggest fans. Now Dwight is with grandma, his number 1 fan. I will cherish all the memories with you Dwight. I'm sure Grandma was waiting for you with a smile and a hug. I'm glad the suffering is over. You will forever be our favorite 49er. My thoughts and prayers are with Kelly and your family, friends and fans. Rest In Peace

I met Dwight on Spring Break when I was 15 years old in Myrtle Beach SC. Dwight was the boyfriend of my best friend Ginger Hayes. I remember he was larger than life and we had so much fun that weekend. Dwight was so funny and had an infectious smile and HUGE HANDS....so when I saw the game of the Big Catch I just knew with those hands he had that catch. When he came to Atlanta to play the Falcons we would catch up. My prayers go out to his children and grandchildren he will be missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

I met Dwight Clark about 5 years ago at a casino named Harrah's in Maricopa, Az where I live. I have been an advid 49er fan for 40 years plus. When I heard he was coming I got to Harrah's early to wait in line to meet him. It was not a disappointment. What a gracious man. I told him my story of being a 49ers fan and he graciously took a picture with me. He had his box of rings to show his accomplishments and was so well deserving. My husband wore his Ram's jersey and Dwight was so professional in telling him that the Ram's were an up and coming team and something to look out for. He signed an autographed picture for my husband and me. He personalized my picture and my husband just had Dwight sign his name to his. I belong to a =n Arizona 49er's fan club the AZEmpire and my husband had his autographed picture be raffled off to our fan club for the Super Bowl that the 49er's and Baltimore Ravens. I am glad I got to met Dwight and so many of the 49er's from that alumni group. God Bless your family and our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.

There are 3 famous events that happened in sports that we will always remember where we were when it happened. I remember where I witnessed the Chicago Cubs 1st World Series won in 108 years; I remember where I witnessed the 1980 Miracle On Ice; and finally I will always remember where I witnessed The Catch January 10 1982. I wish I could have met Dwight who embodied all of the qualities and integrity I have always strived for, I sincerely extend my condolences to the Clark Family as well as SF 49er Nation. Christmas Eve 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting Dwight Clark. I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and as I headed out of the Capitola, Ca Mall I stopped outside of Chilli's to catch the football scores on the tv. Standing alone to my left near the takeout area was Dwight Clark. I introduced myself and we shook hands and I thanked him for the great years with the 49ers. You see I have been a 49er fan since I was 6 years old and in the early 70's the Cowboys and Roger Staubach always beat us. We talked about the "Catch" and beating the Cowboys and we both had a good laugh. Three months later Dwight announced he had ALS. During our conversation Dwight was gracious, funny and humble. He was a class act. RIP Dwight.

Born in San Francisco 1949 I became a "49er" for life. After suffering through so many disappointments,"The Catch" ended 33 years of frustration.
I was there at "The Stick" on January 10, 1982, front row, 15 yard line, "Too Tall" chasing Joe,and then #87 Leaping High in the Air. Don Klein was in my ear..."Clark caught it for a Touchdown!"

Thank you Dwight! You are my Sports Hero for Life! God Bless You!!!

I was a 49ers fan because of Dwight Clark. My father was a Dallas Cowboys fan. It was January 10, 1982 with less than a minute left in the game between my 49ers and his Cowboys when I told my father that the 49ers were going to beat the Cowboys...and they did because of "The Catch". Dwight Clark was a beautiful man both on the outside and the inside. Thanks for memories Dwight. May God bless your family and hold them close in this time of sorrow.

That moment captured a City and my Family with so much euphoria. I met you years later and You lived up to the little boys image that I had of you .. Our Hero with Humility & Joy .. RIP my childhood Hero!

My sincere condolences to Dwight's family. Dwight not only showed us all what can be accomplished with determination on the field, he also showed us how to be a loving compassionate individual that will be truly missed

Godspeed Dwight
