Dwight Derrickson

Dwight C. Derrickson, was born on February 8, 1942, in Estherville, Iowa to Paul and Bernice (Togstad) Derrickson. Surrounded by his family, he peacefully passed away at his home on Lost Island Lake on August 9, 2025, at the age of 83.

Dwight attended country school and then Graettinger High School. He later obtained his GED and completed two years of college. Dwight served as a mechanic in the United States Army from 1960 until 1963, he was stationed in Germany. On March 16, 1965, he was united in marriage to Margaret Smith at Wallingford Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Wallingford, where he owned and operated Dwight's Repair from 1967 until his retirement in 2022 at the age of 80. Dwight and Margaret built a home on Lost Island Lake and moved there in 1987.

When not busy in the repair shop, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to fish. Fishing was a passion of his, for nearly 50 years he took a trip to Canada to fish with his buddies. He liked to attend car auctions and purchase cars with the intention of repairing and reselling them, Margaret sometimes had to remind him to finish the job. He enjoyed a beverage or two with friends and time at the casino. Dwight was an avid newspaper reader, reading the printed versions daily and later in life read the online versions. Dwight was a past member of Wallingford Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Dwight is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret of Ruthven; his daughter Christy Rupp (Steve Oswald) of Beresford, South Dakota; his son Steve (Chris) Derrickson of Ruthven; his grandchildren Brady (Courtney) Rupp, Brandon Rupp, Hailey (Michael) Sundall, and Ian Derrickson; sister Donna (Gary) Stribley of Okoboji; and nephew Gayland (Jamie) Burge of Wisconsin.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Bernice and his step-father Leroy Oddson.
