Dwight Edward "Eddie" Kernea

Dwight Edward "Eddie" Kernea, age 62 of Murphy, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Eddie was born in Whitfield County, Georgia to the late Harold Wayne and Willa Belle Dockery Kernea. He had worked as a lineman. Eddie excelled in woodcraft and art. He was commissioned by the state of Georgia to recreate the town of Tallula. The interactive diorama continues to be a permanent display in the Tallula Gorge Interpretive Center. Eddie also built the CCC camp for Vogle State Park and The Mississippian Indian Cultural Mounds for Rome, Georgia. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing and time with his family. Eddie was a jokester, mischievous; was kind and always lending a hand. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his brothers, Johnny Kernea, Larry Kernea (Jill) and Tim Kernea (Debbie); a sister, Brenda Anderson; his nieces and nephews, Nicole Sharp, Nathan Arrant (Lacye), Elizabeth Buchanan (Jason), Amber Mathieu (Cory), Michael Kernea (Elisabeth), Kendall Lovingood (Matthew) and Kailey Bailey (Thristen); his great nieces and nephews, Eliana Sharp, Elise Sharp, Marin Sharp, Delaney Reid, Ansley Buchanan, Brooks Buchanan, Skylar Mathieu, Myles Mathieu, Avery Mathieu, Carter Kernea, Corie Kernea, Sutton Lovingood, Maddox Bailey, Kollsen Bailey, Addison Bailey and 2 additional great nieces on the way.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with Pastor Hoyt Brown officiating. Music will be provided from Tommy and Dorothy Dockery. Burial will be in Bellview Community Cemetery in Murphy. Pallbearers will be TJ Dockery, Matt Burrell, Michael Kernea, Nathan Arrant, Thristen Bailey and Jason Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Palmer, Jay Killian and Tony Dockery.

The family will recieve friends from 12pm to 1pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy prior to the service.
