One of my earliest memories of childhood is stopping at the Piggly Wiggly with my parents one day. I remember my mom putting me in the backseat of the car and a guy who was our neighbor came up to our car. He talked to my parents for a minute, then poked his head in the car and said hello to me. I was no more than 3 or 4 years old at the time, but I remember that vividly. That neighbor was Dwight Riddle. My mother had known Dwight since he was about 12-years-old, so his family were old friends. For several years, Dwight and his wife Lori lived across the road from us when I was a kid. They had two kids, Leslie and Jason. After a while, Dwight and Lori built a house a mile up the road, next to his parents' home, and moved there. Over the years I would see Dwight fairly often, and he always seemed upbeat and always had a smile and a kind word. So many days I'd drive by their house and he would be in the front yard (and he had a HUGE front yard) hitting golf balls or mowing the lawn. I'd see him around town all the time and he'd always ask how my mom was doing. I'd pass him in the road and he'd wave. He is and will be missed.

Dwight and I were friends since 3rd grade. He was one of the first people to introduce himself to me when schools were integrated years ago. He stuck out his hand and said "hey, my name is Dwight. What's yours?" As a young child not knowing anyone in a school away from my friends, that meant a lot to me. That was Dwight's way. He was always the same throughout our entire educational journey and beyond. Always friendly, always courteous, and always someone you could count on. He will always be cherished in my heart that way. I know without a doubt that he is also a child of God. He will be missed. May God be with you as you progress through each day. Know that God is always with you. My prayers are with you too
