Earl Aker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - Welsheimer Chapel-North on Feb. 3, 2026.
Earl R. Aker III passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on November 10, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, Earl was a private man but enjoyed the sharing with family and friends when the opportunities presented themselves.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl R. Aker, Jr. and Velma M. (Waechter) Aker. His

legacy continues through his loving family, including his sons, David (Kim) Aker of South Bend,

IN, and Troy Aker; his grandchildren, Blakely (Emily) Aker of Mishawaka, IN, and Hunter Aker of South Bend, IN; his sisters, Linda Aker of Albuquerque, NM, and Judy (David) Sawayda of

Texas; his brother, Robert Aker, Sr., of Florida; as well as his six nieces/nephews and five great-

nieces/nephews who will miss him dearly.

A proud graduate of Riley High School, Earl's commitment to his country was evident through

his honorable service in the United States Army. Following his time in the military, he dedicated

many professional years as an office administrator in various service industries.

Earl's passion for the arts was undeniable, as he was a regular season ticketholder for

Broadway Theatre League and all manner of artistic expressions on stage and screen. Earl relished the annual award shows and his encyclopedic knowledge of past winners of the E.G.O.T. awards was uncanny.

His love for literature was just as strong, as he was a voracious reader who could always be found with a book in hand. In the kitchen, Earl's culinary skills were a source of joy for his family and friends, as he loved to cook and share his delicious creations. Earl would document countless recipes he wanted to try on business cards and share with others.

Those who knew Earl will remember him as a kind man with a sometimes gruff demeanor but one that enjoyed entertaining his fellow residents of Fairington Apartments hosting games of Bingo and Saturday card night. Earl would find particularly horrible "Dad Jokes" to share with his friends and family, always searching for the perfect presentation for a laugh. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Cremation will take place, and no services will be held at this time. Palmer Funeral

Home-Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. A Celebration of Life for Earl at a later date this month.
