Earl Berger

Mr. Earl Berger, 76, of Youngstown transitioned from this life on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Hospice House with family by his side.

Mr. Berger, affectionately known by some as "Big Earl" was born 4/22/1949, in Lynchburg, Virginia, a son of Willie Mae Patterson and William Henry Berger.

He worked in the steel mill industry for many years including US Steel, Youngstown Sheet & Tube, and Republic Steel. He retired from Youngstown City Schools where he worked as a custodian for 20+ years.

Earl loved music of all genres. He was a self-taught musician and mastered several instruments including the organ, piano, guitar and bass guitar. He was a member of the Golden Gate Gospel Group from 1979-1990 singing in churches throughout Ohio as a lead singer and bass guitarist. He loved watching sports, western and karate movies. He also loved cars. He was a member of New Grace Missionary Baptist Church where he was an organist for many years.

He is survived by his children Quentin L. Scott of Lorain, Ohio, Angela Richardson of Lexington, Kentucky, Aqualynette Berger of Austintown, Ohio, Roxanne Berger and Earl Berger (Elena) of Columbus, Ohio, Tiffany Berger Leflore (Jessie) of Mansfield, Ohio, Angela Berger of Phoenix, Arizona, Sonya Berger of Columbus, Ohio, Tiara Berger and Earl Marlowe Berger of Youngstown, Ohio, Trent Berger of Miami, Florida, Myeisha Carrion (Sebastian) of Wimauma, Florida and Lillyanna Oslavic of Struthers, Ohio. He is also survived by two sisters Quindora Berger of Hubbard, Ohio, Louvinia Smith of Grove City, Ohio, and a brother Jerry Berger (Betty) of Virginia. He also has a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Besides his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by siblings Nora Mae Davis, Charles Berger, Alfonso Berger, William Henry Berger, Sam Berger, Occie Berger Sr, Chester Berger, Queenester Berger and a grandson, J'Berto Bjorn Leflore.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at New Grace Missionary Baptist Church at 909 Fairgreen Avenue Youngstown, Ohio 44510. A celebration of life will follow at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery. Reverand Frank Christian Sr will officiate.
