Earl Cagle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Inc. - Clinton on Jan. 26, 2026.
Earl Houston Cagle, a longtime resident of the Claxton Community in Anderson County, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at the age of 88. Earl was the Founder of Claxton Automotive Machine Shop and proudly served his country as a Navy SeaBee Veteran.

While serving in the Navy, Petty Officer Cagle was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11, performing the duties of Construction Mechanic. The unit recommissioned at Port Hueneme, California in July 1953 during the waning days of the Korean War as "the newest battalion in existence." While deployed at Cubi Point, Luzon The Philippines, NMCB11 set the record for the number of piles driven for piers in a single day. The unit also constructed air strips that are still being used.

After the Korean War the unit deployed to Adak, Alaska in 1957 to repair damage to the Alaskan bases after a 9.1 magnitude earthquake. Then in 1959 in Okinawa, Japan to build permanent staging facilities for the US Marine Corps. Petty Officer Cagle's Devotion to duty, reflect great credit upon himself, NMCB11 and the US Navy.

In December 1986, Cagle joined the M.W. Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee Alpha Lodge No. 376 in Clinton, where he found fellowship and purpose in the organization's principles of brotherhood and service.

Mr. Cagle's dedication to his community was evident through his various roles in local government and organizations. As a member of the Anderson County Conservation Board, he spearheaded the creation of Bull Run Park in Claxton-a lasting gift to residents that continues to provide recreation and a gathering space for families. The park's pavilion stands as a named tribute to his generous spirit and vision for community enhancement. In quieter moments, Earl enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing and tending to his garden.

Above all, he was a father, brother, grandfather and friend to so many, who left a remarkable legacy of community and service.

He leaves behind his sons, Earl Houston Cagle II "Bucky" and his wife, Vickie, Robert Garland Cagle, Bert James Cagle, and David Eric Cagle; sisters, Betty Lynn Wood, Sue Selvidge, and Lois Powers; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Maude Cagle, four brothers, and two sisters.

Receiving of Friends will be from 5:00-7:00 pm at Riverview Baptist Church on Monday, February 2, 2026. A masonic service will begin at 7:00 pm followed by his funeral service with Pastor Mark Kitts officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.
