Earl E Nickoson, of Okeana, passed away on February 20, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Bracken County, Kentucky on July 18, 1930, to Forest and Maggie (Cummins) Nickoson. Earl married Jean Durkin on April 1, 1959, and together they were blessed with 4 children: Kevin, Kieran, Kelly, and Kenneth. Earl retired from the C & O Railroad after more than 40 years of service. He loved to be outdoors riding his John Deere Tractor and working in his yard. He also thoroughly enjoyed driving his Cadillacs. Earl was a true animal lover and animal whisperer. He had a special way with animals and they seemed to appreciate him as much as he did them. Earl was adventurous and determined. At the age of 77, he made the 1 mile 600 ft decline down and back up the Lower Falls Trail in Yellowstone National Park. Earl outpaced his children and was able to keep up with the grandkids.
Preceded in death by his loving wife: Jean (Durkin) Nickoson; grandson: Robert Earl Nickoson; siblings: Robert, Jessie, Mary, Betty, Ruby, Patricia, and Gloria; and best fur friend: Gunner.
Those left to cherish his memory, are his children: Kevin (Melissa) Nickoson, Kieran (Tina) Nickoson, Kelly (Tim) Jones, and Kenneth (Tracy) Nickoson; grandchildren: Kevin Jr. Nickoson, Daniel (Hannah) Nickoson, Dr. Keri Nickoson, Lauren Nickoson, Jonathan Nickoson, Matthew Nickoson, Kristin (Josh) Adams, Stephanie (Adam Enochs) Jones, Korbin (Jenna) Nickoson, Knoah (Kenzie) Nickoson, and Keegan (Carissa) Nickoson; great grandchildren: Cici, Olivia, and Cooper Nickoson; Brianna and Jeffery Adams, Kaitlynn and Lorelai Enochs, Karoline, Kennedy, and Winnie Nickoson; sisters: Shirley Nickoson and Bonnie McCane.
Visitation will be held at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St, Harrison, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 5:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 10:00 am.
Memorials may be made, in Earl's honor, to the SPCA of Cincinnati. A funeral home representative will be availabe to assist you with your donation at the services. You may also mail your donation to Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S Vine St, Harrison, OH 45030.
