Earl James Pontillo, 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday March 15, 2026 at NCH Baker Hospital in Naples, FL.

Earl was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, and is the son of Dominic and Marguerite (Trosino) Pontillo.

Earl graduated from Saint James Catholic High School for Boys in Chester, PA. He later went on to graduate from The Pennsylvania State University with a BSE degree in Electrical Engineering where he was designated as an Honor Graduate. He earned a Certificate in Electronics and a Diploma in Electrical Technology for which he was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate. He was also Honorably Discharged from the Army National Guard.

Earl earned his Private Pilot's License, VFR, and flew for decades. Most famously he flew/favored Beechcraft Bonanzas, and dabbled in "Tail Draggers" for a time.

Earl worked as an Engineer for the bulk of his career. He ended his corporate career in a dual role as a Plant General Manager/Director of Engineering. He finished his career as an Entrepreneur owning and managing an Italian Food Wholesale business as well various Pizza Shops, an Italian Restaurant, and a Delicatessen.

In retirement Earl pursued improvement of his golf game, but he eventually turned back to his life-long passion for dance. Over the last several years he discovered Tango. He was a fixture in the local Tango scene in Naples, FL. He traveled to surrounding areas for both Milongas/Tango and other multi-disciplinary dance events. He traveled domestically and internationally for decades. That love of international travel merged with his passion for Tango resulting in several trips abroad to experience the "Tango Culture" in other countries.

Earl is survived by his wife Carmela (Manera) Pontillo separated after 36 years, his three sons; Earl Gregory (Gina), Matthew (Donna O'Neill), and Mark (Laurie) Pontillo, his Brother Ralph Pontillo, his sister Bonnie Ryan (deceased), multiple grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his long-term companion Carmela Bolock with whom he shared his passion for dance. He was loved and respected by many.

A service will be planned for a future date, details with be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Naples, FL.
