Earl Lonnie Ward, 84, a beloved member of community, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. Born on November 26, 1939 in Columbus County, North Carolina, Earl was the son of Leamon and Lillie Johnson Ward. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Clyde, Jerry, Don and Charlie Ward.
Earl dedicated many years of his life working in textiles. One of Earl’s favorite pastimes was hunting. He found great joy gardening and farming watermelons. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Earl was a member of West Cramerton Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Belmont Masonic Lodge #627.
Earl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nettie Duncan Ward, who stood by his side through everything. Their bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them, a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. He also leaves behind his daughters, Sandra Kay Ward Black and Kathy Ward Fuller; Earl’s legacy lives on through his wonderful grandchildren, Lonnie Pittman, Wesley Baucom and fiancée Kayla Mullarkey, and Gracie Fuller who brought immense pride and joy to his life. Also, his sister, Patricia Ward Martin and husband Dennis; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023 at West Cramerton Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Ivey and Pastor Walt Griggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until 1:45 P.M., prior to the 2:00 P.M. service. Interment will follow at Evergreen "A Quiet Place" with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Baucom, Billy Duncan, Tony Duncan, Jeff Duncan, Gerald Duncan, and Dennis Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be West Cramerton Baptist Church,5006 Wilkinson Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28056 or made to the donor’s choice.
