Earl Lloyd Wilkinson, 87, of New Castle passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025 at his home. He was born September 21, 1938 in New Castle to Maurice and Reba (Western) Wilkinson.
Earl was a 1957 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School where he played in the band. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a sharpshooter. Earl worked for Delco Remy Division of General Motors, retiring after 30 years of service. He was also employed at Brooks Foods, Chrysler Corp., Metaldyne and Ingersoll Steel in New Castle. His passion was farming and had been since he was a young teenager.
Earl attended Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church and formerly attended Sugar Grove Church as well as First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle. He was a member of the Markleville Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine and was a past member of the Scottish Rite. Earl was a 10-year member of 4H and also belonged to the FFA. He loved playing golf, mowing his lawn and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, IU Hoosiers and the New Castle Trojans. Earl loved to travel and he visited every state in the U.S. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish Earl's memory are his wife of 67 years, Sonja (Neal) Wilkinson; children, Earl, Jr. (Kara) Wilkinson of Cambridge City, Cindy (David) Piercy of New Castle; grandchildren, Kristen (Brad) Miller, Katelyn (Corey) Fultz, Sonja Piercy and Isaac Piercy ( McKenna Beaudry); great-grandchildren, Cohen Miller, Judah Fultz, Quinn Miller and Everleigh Fultz; brother Glen (Bobette) Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Wilkinson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Wilkinson.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Corey Fultz and Steve Arnett officiating. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the US Army, American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
