Earlene Bessent, 82, of Brownwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1943, in Oglesby, Texas, to Luther Alexander Henager and Lillie Bell Edwards. Earlene devoted much of her life to working in healthcare, where she was known for her compassion, work ethic, and gentle spirit. She cared for countless patients over the years, always treating them with dignity and kindness. Her dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on her community and those she served. A faithful member of the Brownwood Evangelism Center, Earlene's faith guided her in all aspects of life. On July 21, 1961, she married the love of her life, Cecil Bessent, in Oglesby, Texas. Together, they built a strong and loving family. Earlene enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with her loved ones-always finding joy in life's simple pleasures. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Cecil Bessent; four sons, Brian Bessent and wife Karen of Cross Plains, Darrell Bessent and wife Tisa of Brownwood, Robert Bessent and wife Denice of Brownwood, and John Bessent and wife Carol of New Braunfels; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Earlene was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Brownwood Evangelism Center. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Brownwood Evangelism Center with Pastor Kenneth Colegrove officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
