Earlene M. Mosby

Earlene Mary Mosby, 101, of Quincy, passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at her home in Quincy, IL.

Earlene was born August 11, 1924, in Maywood, MO to Harvey and Annie (Weathers) Allen. She was married to George W. Mosby on February 5, 1951 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2005.

Survivors include her three daughters, Gerri Scott of Chicago, Gretchen McBride-Chavis of Columbus, OH, and Marla Gay (William) of Quincy; eight grandchildren, William Scott, Michael McBride (Yugunda), Marcus McBride (Tara), Melody McBride, Matthew McBride, Eunique Schneider (Mark), Richard Johnson, and Victor M. Saunders; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Earlene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her four brothers, Earl, Russell, Wendell, and Herbert Allen; two sisters, Maxine Allen and Charlotte Gipson; and one daughter, Judith Mae Johnson.

Earlene's life was marked by her commitment to her community and her faith. She served as a sales clerk at JC Penny until her retirement in 1989, where her radiant smile and helpful demeanor made her a beloved figure. Her service extended beyond her professional life as she was an active member of the First Baptist Church and engaged in numerous community activities. She poured her heart into the Young Achievers Club, the Martha K. Majors Club, and Meals on Wheels. Earlene served as a caring crossing guard for Quincy Public Schools, ensuring the safety of countless children. She was also a board member for Jackson Lincoln Swimming Pool Complex.

A sports fanatic, Earlene's enthusiasm for the KC Chiefs and the Cardinals was infectious. She relished the excitement of basketball and shared this passion with her family and friends. Earlene found solace and beauty in her rose garden, and her skill in playing canasta and clubs was unmatched. Her love for jazz and gospel music filled her home with melody and praise.

Earlene was renowned for her culinary skills, particularly her meatloaf, mac and cheese, and green beans, which were staples at family gatherings. Family was the cornerstone of Earlene's life; she cherished every opportunity to visit her relatives in Chicago and to host gatherings, particularly on Mother's Day and Christmas.

Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us

Friends and Family are invited to Earlene's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Monday, October 13, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Rev. Dr. Orville Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson Lincoln Swimming Pool Complex.
