Earline Janica Summers
January 7, 1951 – October 28, 2023
Earline Janica (Davis) Summers was born on January 7, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois and went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28th in
Springfield, Missouri.
Earline is preceded in death by her father, James Moore; mother, Mary Strong; and brother, John Davis.
Earline loved the Lord and cared deeply for others. She was so proud of her family: husband, Gary Summers; daughter, Jasmine York (Jason); and grandchildren: Isaiah, Ariella, and Jeremiah.
She attended James McCosh Elementary School and Englewood High School in Chicago. After attending Loop Jr. College and Taylor Business Institute, she became a Data Entry Operator and Secretary for Kraft Foods. Earline Janica Davis married Gary Eugene Summers on May 19, 1985, at Gonzaga Hall on Loyola University Campus in Chicago, Illinois. She continued her education, earning an associate degree from Daly College in early childhood education in 1999. After being a stay-at-home mom for some time, she became a daycare worker at Little Shepherd Preschool as well as Perfect Beginnings.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior which forever changed her life at age 30. Though she had been through hard times during her younger years, she did not look like her experiences. She lived her life with joy. She was an active member of Victory in Christ Church in Chicago until she moved away in 2016 but still gave offerings there as she was able. Throughout her life she had a servant's heart and was an altar worker at Faith Tabernacle in the 1980s and served in the Sunday school and children's ministry at Victory in Christ Church. She also volunteered at Christ Hospital in Chicago in the Heart Unit and prayed for others often.
She loved to spend time with her family, laughing, playing the tambourine, dancing, reading, memorizing scripture, and writing thoughtful notes to friends as well as checking on people as she was thinking about them. She also enjoyed surprising her family and friends with gifts. She especially loved giving Bible related gifts to her grandchildren to instill seeds of faith at an early age.
She never met a stranger and always went out of her way to care for others. She would often talk about how proud she was of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be sorely missed. She inspired all those who knew her to love the Lord and love each other.
Loved ones and those that would like to join in celebrating Earline's life will do so on Wednesday, November 8th at 12:30 PM at Elfindale Chapel – 1701 S. Fort Avenue in
Springfield, MO. A private burial will be held for family members at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Isabel's House in
Springfield, Missouri.
