So appreciative of the Sunday afternoon Earnie spent with me in Kingston while preaching at a Pentecostal church 30 years ago.... Earnie was a great friend that helped me reboot my life in a better direction. Forever grateful to this man.

Earnie attended one of my amateur fights in Youngstown. Ohio. After I won he came into the dressing room and congratulated me. It was an honor and something I will never forget. Rest In Peace Mr Shavers.

Mr. Earnie Shavers was a legendary heavyweight boxer known for his knockout punch who fought Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. He had many contributions to his community. Nonpareil punching power, top-ranked boxer in the golden age of the sport, and truly a wonderful genial man. I always smile, when I read accounts (from some of the greatest heavyweights of all-time) of how hard Ernie hit in the ring. And how beloved, delightful, decent, and well-respected he was in all other settings.

Rest in peace, Ernie. You were an unforgettable boxer, and champion gentleman.
