Christine Thornton Obituary

Christine Helen Thornton, 78, of Culpeper, passed away Monday, February 20, 2006 at her daughter Shirley's residence. Mrs. Thornton was born April 27,1927 in Radford, to the late James Russell Wayne and Mary Ann Vipperman Wayne; was the widow of William Preston Thornton and worked as a housekeeper. Christine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to many; was raised in Radford where she met and married her late husband; her life was lived for her family and filled with love. Surviving Mrs. Thornton are her children, Johnny Russell Thornton and his wife, Sharon of Culpeper, Frankie Louise Carroll and her husband, Don of Midland, Shirley Jean Goins and her husband, Johnny of Culpeper, Howard Dudley Thornton and his fiancee, Doris of Culpeper and Linda Faye Thornton of Spotsylvania; siblings, Harold Wayne of Richmond, Jeanett Loving of Richmond and Paul (Eddie) Wayne of Mechanicsville; her sixteen grandchildren and thirty two great-grandchildren. Preceding Christine in death are her parents, husband, son, Stevie Preston Thornton, brothers, James Russell Wayne, Donnie Lee Wayne, sisters, Virgie Gearheart and Daphane Estes Vancannon and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Thornton. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, at 1 p.m. at the Clore-English Funeral Chapel, 11190 James Monroe Hwy., Culpeper, with Rev. John Miller conducting the service. Interment will follow in the Midland Cemetery, Midland, where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22, and Thursday, February 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Family Care Home Health & Hospice, 610 Laurel Street, Suite 210, Culpeper, VA 22701. The family has entrusted Clore-English Funeral Home with these arrangements.
