Ed Collins Obituary

Ed Collins passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Family was the cornerstone of Ed's life. His wife, Wanda, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, preceded him in death, as did his son Richard.

He is survived by his three daughters: Robin Nichols (Rob), Shawna Ciddio (CJ), Nancy Jimenez (Tom); grandchildren: Joshua, Jesse, Courtney, Carleigh; great-grandsons: Finn, and Cody.

Ed was born on May 29, 1938, in the small town of Ekalaka, Montana to Raymond Collins and Agnes Lilletvedt. He lived a full and vibrant life with 7 siblings, marked by his adventurous spirit, love for the western lifestyle, and a strong sense of determination that carried him from humble beginnings to countless levels of success.

Ed was the quintessential provider—quiet, resilient, gruff, and sometimes stubborn, yet still possessing a heart of gold. His frugality and tireless work ethic were balanced by his deep-seated desire to ensure a secure and prosperous life for his family.

“Great Grandpa Mr. Ed" lived for three years as a bachelor in his self-titled ‘Cowboy Bunk House,’ which he purchased after Wanda’s passing. During that time, he spent his days transporting deliveries throughout the Southwest and maintaining vacation rentals, several of which he owned himself. While Wanda was alive, the two traveled the country together in their RV, proudly visiting all 50 states. He played senior league softball for 20 years and served as the team’s treasurer. All of this followed a remarkable 44-year career as a manager with NCR, as well as honorable service to his country in the U.S. Army. He was a man with a work ethic not commonly found.

Though losing a loved one is never easy, Ed will be remembered for his resilience, loyalty, and the example he set through a life of service, hard work, and devotion to family. His legacy is one of strength, love, and—above all—commitment.

Ed will be laid to rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 1:00pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St., 87501. Reception will follow at the home of Nancy Collins Jimenez.
