Eddie Box Obituary

Published by Dan Scales Funeral Services on Nov. 19, 2012.
Eddie Mae Box was born on August 12, 1941 in Grady, Arkansas. She later moved to California with her family. She was the oldest of 11 children. When growing up with Uncle Bernard, he had to take her everywhere he went. In the neighborhood, she was known as a "tomboy." She could climb any tree, fence and could run faster than most of the boys in the neighborhood. Eddie Mae graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1958. She completed Nursing School in Marin County, received her nursing license and worked until she chose to become a mother and a full-time housewife. Eddie Mae accepted Christ and was a member of the Center of Hope Church Of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Johnnie Riley. She spread the joy of her newfound relationship with Christ with her siblings and friends. You would often hear her say "God is so good!" She loved the church and served faithfully for many years. She served on the Usher Board and would help out in the church where needed. She became a blessing to her Aunt Mary by taking care of her children: Lawrence and Reginald Miller, so that her Aunt could pursue a career. She had good family values in assisting the family. She took on the role of being the "Big Sister" and was exceptional in her role of caring for her mother when she needed her the most, so much that her daughter, Christa, with her tender heart and steadfast loyalty, did the exact same thing when her mother, Eddie Mae, needed her. What a beautiful tribute to Eddie Mae and her daughter. She was very close to her cousin, Joann McCoy. They frequently visited each other on the phone and enjoyed each other's company. Eddie Mae was well-known as a good person, good sister, kind hearted, gentle spirit and a friend. Eddie Mae loved her sisters and brothers and there was not anything that she would not do for them. Eddie Mae will be missed. She has made her journey and is now resting with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L. Box; her parents: Roosevelt and Mary McCoy; and three brothers: Roosevelt, RC and EC McCoy. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Christa M. Box; two sisters: Theresa Denton and Sonya McCoy of Pittsburg, CA; five brothers: Charlie and Chris McCoy of Richmond, CA, Bernard, Nate and Anthony McCoy of Pittsburg, CA; six sisters-in-law: Debbie and Sharon McCoy, Pearl Davis, Beverly Woods and Reshema Hill of Pittsburg, CA and Shonna McCoy of Richmond, CA; and one brother-in-law Larry Denton of Pittsburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
