I knew Eddie Fisher for a number of years on a personal level. One of his last live appearances was at the French Lick Resort in Indiana. The placed was packed with enthusiastic crowds, BUT he had forgotten a number of words to his songs and stumbled thru the evening. Even though it was not the OLD Eddie Fisher, he was still a great showman, with a beautiful voice. May G-d comfort him with eternal peace.

Dearest Eddie: I was the president of the Canadian fanclub for years. (1950's) I loved you since I was a teenager! I have all your records, etc. You wrote to me a few times, letters I still have! Met you twice. In Vegas,in 1992, you were so nice to me, we had our pictures taken together! I feel so sad as I felt I personally knew you. I hated the way comedians made fun of you. I will always miss you and loved your wonderful voice! Ann Potter, Ottawa, Canada

Eddie's singing was the greatest. During his shows his voice brought down the house. I have been his fan since I first saw him on Coke Time when I was a child. I was lucky to have seen him perform around 8 times. Always great.

I have been a fan of Eddie Fisher since Coke Time. I saw him perform in the Catskill Mountains and in MA. What a voice. He brought down the house.

In the early 1970s I was returning to Michigan from a family visit in Brooklyn, New York and my parents and I stopped at a Howard Johnsons for a mid-morning breakfast. We sat at the counter & Dad began talking to the man sitting next to him. Throughout the meal the two men talked & laughed. Every once in awhile I would enter the conversation and it was a pleasant diversion made even more pleasant a few moments later. The man got up, shook my Dad's hand and came over to speak to both my Mom & me. When Dad went to pay the bill the cashier told him it had been taken care of by the man who had been sitting next to him. My Dad said "that is so nice, but, why?" The cashier said, "oh - that was Eddie Fisher and he wanted to do something nice for your family." That was a big deal but even better a few years later. Eddie Fisher was performing in Flint at the Whiting Auditorium where I was working and I got to meet him and tell him the story. I went through the entire story even describing the dark brown leather jacket he had been wearing. He remembered the jacket and had a vague memory and said "that must have been the time I was doing the Mike Douglas show" but he didn't have much of a memory about it - not surprisingly. The story, however, seemed to mean a great deal to him as I related how much admiration my Dad had for him. And he was laughing at my telling of the story so it was a wonderful experience. He was a nice man to work with for the few days he was performing and Whiting's staff and crew enjoyed having him in the building. The audiences were enthusiastic.

Eddie Fisher had the greatest voice of all the 50's singers. I have many of his Coke Times. I remember showing one to my mother and when Eddie starting singing "Prisoner of Love" I saw tears in her eyes. We still love you Eddie. I met Eddie in 1967 at the Palace in N.Y. after I managed to get to his dressing room and he was very nice to me and let me take some great photos.

I've been a fan of Eddie Fisher since I first heard him sing in 1952. To me he was the was THE BEST SINGER. I first saw him live at London Palladium in 1976 and remember him singing one song without a mike - what a voice. I was rewarded for my loyalty in 1978 when I met him and Betty in his home in San Francisco. I was not disappointed, he was a really nice guy. R.I.P. Eddie. Hope to see you again in Heaven.

I was one of the teenagers who screamed at Coketime and other venues. Now a grandmother of 6, I still listen to Eddie's songs. No other singer has ever come close to Eddie for me! I met him several tinmes over the years and found him as sweet and lovely to his fans as the public persona his publicity people projected. I will never forget him and never stop listening to his music. He was the best. RIP Eddie.

i was one of the bobbie soxers who followed Eddie in the 1950s. it wasn't until the 1970s when he was at the steel pier in AC. i went to the show i wanted to hear his songs.
he noticed me from the stage and started talking to me. every one in the audience turned and looked at me. then he sang a love song directly to me, i didn't know what to make of it. he then directed all the rest of his songs in the show to me. i was really surprised, and excited i felt like a teenager again. i told everyone at work about it, i was on cloud nine. i have a very nice memory of Eddie.

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

When I heard the news on TV it brought back many memories of the times I was fortunate enough to meet Eddie when he would come back to Philly, whether it be to visit his family or appear at the now closed Palumbo's in South Philly.

Debbie and Eddie visited a sick relative of mine in the hospital, way back in the 50's and I will always remember how special it was. The picture was on the front page of the paper in California. It was a shirttale relative that I never got to meet. She was very young, like 3 or 4 yrs old, and died from one of the popular childhood illnesses of that day. Faith Mason Erickson Giardina
